The formula for calculating resistance is as follows:

Resistance (R)=  resistivity(r) x Length (l)      R= rL/a
                                     Area(a)

The new Length of the new wire is 3 times the old one, hence= 3l

resistance of new wire= R = r3l/a

compare the two resistance:
rl/a  and r3l/a

if rl/a= 100%
then r3l/a = 100 x 3rl x      =   300%
                             a     rl

Hence the new resistance 300% the original resistance or three times the original resistance.
