A piece of wire of 320m long is to be cut into two piece of ratio 7:9. What are the
5
lengths of the two pieces. If an extra wire of 245 m is attached to each of the two
pieces of wire. What will be the new length of each piece of wire and convert them
into cm?

Answer:

Length of first part is 140m and of second part is 180m

On addition of wire, the length of first part is 38500cm and of second part is 42500cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of the wire = 320m

Ratio it is to be cut in = 7 : 9

Let the multiplying factor be 'x'

Length of first part = 7x

Length of second part = 9x

Since the length of the wire = 320m

=> 7x + 9x = 320

=> 16x = 320

=> x = 20

The multiplying factor is 20

Therefore, the length of first part = 7x = 7*20 = 140m

and the length of second part = 9x = 9*20 = 180m

An extra wire of 245 m is attached to each of the two  pieces of wire.

Therefore, the length of the new pieces of wires is:

First wire = 140m + 245m = 385m = 38500cm         (as 1m =100cm)

Second wire = 180m + 245m = 425m = 42500cm    (as 1m =100cm)

Given - Ratio and length of piece of wire

Find - Length of original and new two pieces

Solution - Length of original pieces are 140 metres and 180 metres. Length of new pieces are 385 and 425 metres. Length in centimetres is 38,500 and 42,500.

Let the length of two pieces of wire be 7x and 9x.

So, 7x + 9x = 320

16x = 320

x = 320/16

x = 20

Length of first piece of wire = 7x

Length of first piece of wire = 7*20

Length of first piece of wire = 140 metres

Length of second piece of wire = 9x

Length of second piece of wire = 9*20

Length of second piece of wire = 180 metres

On addition of extra wire, the new length will be -

New length of first piece of wire = 140 + 245

New length of first piece of wire = 385 metres or 38,500 centimetres

New length of second piece of wire = 180 + 245

New length of first piece of wire = 425 metres or 42,500 centimetres.
