a piece of wire of resistance 20ohm is stretched so that it's length increased to twice it's original length . calculate the total resistance of new wire

as we know that resistance of wire is directly proportional to its length so, when length would be doubled then resistance will also be double .
so,R=20 ×2=40 ohm

the resistance of a wire is dependent on the area of cross section and the length of the wire now since the length is doubled the area becomes half so as to make the volume constant therefore the resistance becomes 4 times hence the new resistance is 80
