A piece of wooden rod, 48 cm long is divided into three parts. The second part is longer than the first part by 1 cm while the third part is 2 cm longer than the first. How long is each part?

Answer:

let the 1st part is x cm

then second part is(x+1)cm

the 3rd part is (x+2)cm

so,

x+(x+1)+(x+2)=48

x+x+1+x+2=48

3x=48-3=45

x=45/3=15

1st part is 15 cm

2nd part is 16cm

3rd part is 17cm
