a pieces of chalk can be broken down into small pieces when hammer but it on possible in case of an iron bar . explain

1) because chalk is a non metal while iron bar is a metal
2) chalk is brittle while iron bars are stiff
3) chalk is not malleable while iron bars are malleable
4) thus iron bar doesn't break into small pieces while chalk break into small pieces

yes it is possible in the iron bar also .Though it is not possible with hammer but it is possible with some particular machines
