Heya

The height of the pole is 3 m

Let the second piece be x metres

Let the first piece be x/2 m

x + x/2 = 3

(2x+x)/2 = 3

3x = 6.

x= 2

The length of first piece is 1 m and the length of second pieces is two metres

Answer:

The length of first piece is 1 meter and the length of second piece is 2 meter.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A pile of height 3 meters is struck by a speeding car breaks into two pieces such that the first piece is 1/2 of the second.

To find : The length of both pieces?

Solution :

Let the length of first piece be x.

Length of second piece be y.

According to question,

A pile of height 3 meters.

i.e. x+y=3 ....(1)

The first piece is 1/2 of the second.

i.e. x=\frac{y}{2} .....(2)

Solving equation (1) and (2),

Substitute the value of x from (2) into (1)

\frac{y}{2}+y=3

\frac{3y}{2}=3

3y=6

y=2

Substitute y in (2),

x=\frac{2}{2}

x=1

Therefore, The length of first piece is 1 meter and the length of second piece is 2 meter.
