A pipe can fill a cistern in 1 hour and another pipe can fill it in 40 minutes. If the cistern is empty and both pipes are opened at once, in how many minutes would they fill the cistern?​

Answer:

Rate of filling of first pipie= 1/60 of volume per minute

Rate of filling of the second pipe= 1/40

Combine rate =1/60 +1/40=1/24 of volume per minute

Both will fill in 24 minutes
