Let the number of minutes taken to empty the cistern be x min.
According to the question,
x/6−x+5/12−x+5/15=0
x/6−x/12−5/12−x/15−5/15=0
x/6−x/12−x1/5=5/12+5/15
10x−5x−4x/60=25+20/60
x/60=45/60
x=45min
