Answer:

A pipe can fill a cistern in 9 hours.(given)

So,

Part of cistern that can be filled by pipe in 1 hour =1/9

As given on the question,

Time taken to fill cistern if the pipe got leaked from bottom = 10 hours

So,

Part of cistern ,that can be filled by leaked pipe in 1 hour =1/10

Now first I want to explain next step before proceeding further.

A leaked pipe fills less part of cistern in 1 hour as compared to good pipe.so, we can get time in which cistern will be emptied by leaked pipe by the reciprocal of their difference.

So,

1/9-1/10=1/90(as l.c.m = 90)

So,

Part of tank emtied by leaked pipe in 1 hour=1/90

Therefore,

Time take by leaked pipe to empty the full cistern=90 hrs.
