a pipe is throwing water at a rate of 500 gram per second with a speed of 10 metre per second on a block of mass 5 kg on a smooth surface. find acceleration of the block​

water flown in 1sec =500gm = 1/2 kg

speed of water= 10m/s

momentum of water = mass × velocity = 1/2×10 = 5kgm/s

momentum of block = mass × velocity = 5×0 =0

total momentum of a system before and after collision is same

hence ;( momentum of block + momentum of water )before collision = (momentum of block + momentum of water )after collision

the speed of water after collision be 0 and that of block be x

5+0 = 0 + 5x

5x =5

x =5/5 m/s

x = 1m/s
