A pipe of 300mm diameter conveying 0.3m3/s has a right angled bend in a horizontal plane. Find the resultant force exerted on the bend if the pressure at the inlet and out let of the bend is 24.525n/cm2 and 23.544n/cm2.

Area of pipe = 3.14 x (30/2)^2

= 706.5 cm2

Change in pressure, ΔP = 24.525-23.544

=0.981 n/cm2

Hence for right angle band, Force = √2 x ΔP x Area

= 1.414 x 0.981 x 706.5

=980.15 N
