Given A pipe x = 30 meters

x is 45% langer than y

⇒ x = y + 45% of y

⇒ y + 45% of y = 30

⇒ $y + \frac{45y}{100} = 30$

⇒ $y + \frac{9y}{20} = 30$

⇒ $\frac{20y + 9y}{20} = 30$

⇒ 29y = 600  

⇒ y = 600/29 = 20.689 meters

Length of the y pipe = 20.689 meters
