Given height of plane (s) = 500m

Speed of plane (v) = 120 m/s

Which will also be the speed of the bomb when it is dropped..

As we know that time to reach the bomb when thrown vertically or horizontally will be the same , therefore

s = ut + 1/2 at²

s = 1/2 at²    (when dropped vertically)

500 = 1/2 gt²

500 = 1/2 * 10t²      [for the sake of simplicity g=10m/s²]

∴ t = 10 s

Now, horizontal range of bomb = v*t

= 120 * 10

= 1200m

It is also given that speed of tank = 6 m/s towards the plane

therefore distance covered = 6*t

= 60m

Hence, the distance at which the bomb should be thrown = 1200 + 60

                                                                                                 = 1260m

This the answer...

I hope you understand..
