Answer:

The plane is flying at the height of 5000 m above the sea level

Distance of the plane from sea level = 5000\ m

Also, the submarine floating 1200 m below the sea level

Distance of the submarine from sea level = -1200\ m

Distance between them = [5000-(-1200)]\ m

6200\ m

Answer:

Here,

Height of the plane above sea level is = 5000 metres

Depth of the submarine below the sea level = 1500 metres

considering to be the distance above the sea level is positive and below the sea level is negative

Therefore vertical distance between them

= 5000-[-1500] m

=5000+1500 m

=6500m
