Answer:

10,900 m

Explanation:

Given -

Plane flying above sea level = 9000 m

Submarine floating below sea level = 1900 m

To find -

Total vertical distance between plane and submarine (if plane is exactly above submarine)

Solution -

Total vertical distance = Plane above sea level + Submarine below sea level

= 9000 m + 1900 m

= 10900 m

Hence Total vertical distance between them = 10,900 m (10.9 km)

hope it helps.

Explanation:

The plane is 9000 metres above the sea level.

So, let us consider the sea as the origin.

Now, at the same time a submarine, of course, inside the sea is 1900 metres .

In simple words, we need to find the vertical distance between them.

So, adding the distances between them, we get :-

9000 + 1900

How we got this (+) sign?

When we go down, the sign is negative, refer to coordinate geometry.

Now, we need to find the vertical distance between them, that means, subtracting them.

9000 - ( - 1900)

= 9000 + 1900

= 10, 900 metres is the required distance and the answer .
