a plane is travelling eastwards at a speed of 500km/h but a 90 km/h wind is blowing southwards what is the direction and speed of the plane with respect to the ground

the speed of the plane :

v = √(500^2) + (90^2) km/h

= 508.04 km/h

The direction of the palne :

tan θ = 90/500

=>θ = tan^-1 (90/500) = 10.20°( South of East)

Hence,the speed of the plane relative to ground will be 508.04 km/h and the direction of the plane will be 10.20°(S to E)
