Given:

The wavelength off plane wavefront (λ) = 5500A°

Distance between screen and slits = 2 meters

The length on-screen of 10 bright fringes = 2 cm

To Find:

The distance between the two slits.

Solution:

The width of 10 bright fringes = 2 cm = 20 mm

⇒ The width of one bright fringe = 20/10 mm = 2 mm

And, the fringe width (β) = λD/d

⇒ Distance between the two slits (d) = λD/β

Putting the values in the above expression

⇒ Distance between the two slits (d)= (55 × 10⁻⁸ × 2)/ 2 × 10⁻³ = 55× 10⁻⁵m

Hence, the distance between the two slits is equal to 0.55 mm.
