A plant cell has 5 % salt concentration. It is placed into a solution containing 12 % salt concentration.

What will happen to plant cell?

(a) Water will move out of the plant cell, causing it to shrivel

(b) Water will move into plant cell, causing it to swell and burst

Answer:

a)Water will move out of the plant cell.

Explanation:

because water in a plant cell is with a lower concentration i.e. less solute and more solvent  , and the salt solution outside has higher concentration i.e. more solute less solvent ,and so the water will move from the region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration (from plant to the surrounding solution )and this will cause the plant cell to shrivel.

Thanks!!!!
