a plant does not have a mouth so how does oxygen enter
it's body?
Answers
Answer:
The oxygen is transported in plants by means of simple diffusion processes; through the air spaces and through the cell membrane.
The gaseous exchange in plants takes place through:-
1) The Stomata - Present on the outer surfaces of leaves and young green stems.
2) The Lenticels - Present on the outer surfaces of roots and stems.
a) As in leaves and in stems too the living cells are located close to the surface and exposed to the air.
b) The loose packing of parenchyma cells provides an interconnecting air spaces system in root, stem and leaves.
c) The gases including Oxygen enters through the stomata and lenticels, diffuse thousand times faster through the air spaces than through the water.
d) Being non polar molecule, Oxygen doesn't require channel to move across the cell membrane.
