best example is brinjal i.e solanum melongena  which has persistent calyx even after fertilization....

There are lots of plants that still have sepals intact after fertilization. For example, we have the tomatoes, strawberries, eggplants and brinjal. The sepals are the green leafy part that you can see on top at at the bottom of the flower (and later on, the fruit) and this is to serve as protection and support for the developing fruit.
