The starch stored in the leaves will be stained blue/black.
- Chloroplasts are the sites of photosynthesis in plants. They are situated in all green parts of the plant, majorly in the leaves.
- Sunlight, water and carbon dioxide are used by these organelles to produce glucose along with liberation of oxygen. The Glucose is stored in the leaves in the form of starch.
- Starch, being a carbohydrate, forms a blue/black complex in the presence of iodine. This colour change is used as a test for the presence of starch.
- Hence, when a leaf is exposed to sunlight, it synthesises starch and on adding iodine solution, changes colour to blue/black.
