l = 150cm
b = 125cm
h = 65cm
Since the box is open at top, Area of sheet required = 2(bh+hl) + lb
= 2[ (125 × 65) + (65×150) ] + 150×125]
= 2 [8125+ 9750] + 18750
= 2[17875] + 18750
= 35750 + 18750
= 54500cm^2 or 5.45m^2

Question:-

A plastic box 1.5m long and 1.25m wide 65cm deep it is open at the the top determine the area of sheet required for making the box?

Solution:-

We have,

  • Length,l =1.5m
  • Breadth,b =1.25m
  • Depth=height,h=65cm=0.65m

(i)Since the plastic box is open at the top. Therefore,

Plastic sheet required for making such a box

\rm\boxed{\underline\red{= 2(l + b) \times h + (l \times b) {m}^{2}}}

 \rm = 2(1.5 + 1.25) \times 0.65 + 1.5 \times 1.25 {m}^{2}

 \rm = 2 \times 2.75 \times 0.65 + 1.875 {m}^{2}

 \rm = (3.575 + 1.875) {m}^{2} = 5.45 {m}^{2}

(ii)Cost of 1m^2 of sheet=Rs.20

Total cost of 5.45m^2 of sheet=Rs(5.45×20)

=Rs. 109
