Let x = length to extend each side.

40 + 2x = new width

60 + 2x = new length

(40 + 2x)(60 + 2x) = 2(40)(60)

2(20 + x)(2)(30 + x) = 4800

4(20 + x)(30 + x) = 4800

(20 + x)(30 + x) = 1200

600 + 50x + x² = 2000

x² + 50x - 600 = 0

(x + 60)(x - 10) = 0

(x + 60) = 0

x = -60 Discard, negative

(x - 10) = 0

x = 10 meters

given that a rectangular playground of

length=60m, breadth=40m

the area of the rectangle in the first condition

l*b=60*40=2400

the extended area

66*46(since it is being extended all the sides)

the total area is 3036

the area extends by subtracting the extended area and the first area

thus3036-2400=636 is the amount of area extended.
