Because (a+ b ) ² = a² + b² + 2ab

And here we have a²+ b²

For example a= 2 and b = 3

Then according to your question a²+b² should be equal to ( a+ b )²

Then (2)²+ (3)² = 4+9= 13

Also (2+3)²= (5)² = 25

Hence 13≠25i.e (a² + b²) ≠ ( a+b )²
