A point charge Q is placed at point O as shown in figure.Is the potential at point A,that is Va greater smaller or equal to potential Vb at point B,when q is 1- positive 2- negative charge?

i) when q >0
Potential difference between two points in an electrostatic field is the amount of work in moving a unit +ve charge from one point to another against the field .
Here VA>VB
∴VA−VB is positive
(ii) if q <0
Here we move unit +ve charge from A in order to go against the field.
VB>VA
∴VA−VB is negative

Hello there!!

Answer:-

Q is positive.

Explanation:

AQ to your question,

VA - VB = 0

This happens when q>0 as Potential difference between two points in an electrostatic field is the amount of work done against the field in moving a unit +ve charge from one point to other.

=> VA > VB

And hence Q is positive.

Hope this helped you!
