A point travelling along a straight line, traversed
one third the distance with a velocity vo. The
remaining part of the distance was covered with
velocity v, for half the time and with velocity v, for
the other half of the time. Find the mean velocity of
the point averaged over the whole time of motion.

Answer:

6v0v1v2/(2v0 + v1 + v2)

Explanation:

Avg. velocity = total distance /total time

= d/(d/3v0 + d/6v1 +d/6v2)

= 1/(1/3v0 + 1/6v1 +1/6v2)

= 3/(v0 + 0.5v1 + 0.5v2)

= 6v0v1v2/(2v0 + v1 + v2)
