A pole 10m high stands 15m away from a building which is 18m high .Find the distance between the top of the pole and top of the building

Let, x be the distance between the top of the pole and the top of the building

By Pythagorean theorem,

hypotenuse^2 = altitude^2 + base^2

x^2 = (18 - 10)^2 + 15^2

=> x^2 = 8^2 + 15^2

=> x^2 = 64 + 225

=> x^2 = 289

=> x = 17

So, the distance between the top of the pole and top of the building is 17m.
