  • let the height of the pole 20 m be AB, shadow of the
  • respective pole be BC=42.5

draw another pole of height PQ= x m

shadow QR=85 m

in ∆ABC

tan C = AC/BC

20/42.5

on simplified

=4/8.5

=40/85

the sun's angle of shadow casting will be equal for both the poles at the same time

therefore,

tan C= tan Q

40/85=PQ/85

PQ=40m
