A pole broke at a point but did not separate. Its top touches the ground at a distance of 5 CM from its base. If the point where it broke is at a height of 12m from the ground, what was the total height of the pole before it broke

the base be C.

the fallen top be A.

ABC form right triangle where angle c is 90.

AC is 5m.

BC is 12 m.

by pythagoras theorem,

AB2 = BC2 + AC2

AB2 = 12square + 5square

AB2 = 144 + 25

AB2 = 169

Ab = 13

total height of pole before breaking = 12m + 13m

=25m
