A police jeep is chasing a culprit going on a moter bike. The motor bike crosses a turn at a speed of
72 km/h. The jeep follows it at a speed of 108 km/h, crossing the tum 10 seconds later than bike
(keeping constant speed). After crossing the tum, jeep acclerates with constant accleration 2 m/s
Assuming bike travels at constant speed, after travelling a distance 200 m. from the turn, the jeep
catches the bike. Where a is an integer. Find a.

Answer:

speed of motor bike 72 km/h

72*1000/ 3600=20 m/sec

speed of police jeep =108km/h=

108*1000/3600=30 m /sec

let the jeep catch up the bike after t sec

at the same time distance travell by the jeep

=speed *time =30 *t

distance travell by motor bike =20x(t+10)

at the distance both will in same position thus

the value

30t = 20x (t+10)

therefore t =20 sec

so distance travelled by jeep in 20 sec =

20*30=600m
