The distance covered by the chain snatcher when he is caught by the policeman is 50 m.

Explanation:

The relative speed is equal to difference of speeds.

Let the velocity of chain snatcher is v and policeman is V.

Then   relative speed of the policeman is = (V-v)

= 4 m/s - 2 m/s = 2 m/s

The a chain snatcher at a distance of 50 m  from policeman.

So, to catch the snatcher the policeman in has to gain 50 m in time,

t = \frac{50m}{2m/s} = 25 s                 ( as  time = distance /speed)

now total distance covered by the policeman in time 25 s is

= 25s\times4m/s

= 100 m.

Therefore distance covered by the snatcher,

= 100 m - 50 m

= 50 m

Thus, the distance covered by the chain snatcher when he is caught by the policeman is 50 m.
