so total time taken by thief=x/6 sec for covering 'x' m.

in this time(x/6 s ) police run total distance=(x/6)*8.

so ,    

       (x/6)*8=200 +x   {as thief was initially 200ft away from police}

       x=600 ft.

     so distance covered by policeman from its initial pos= 600ft +200ft= 800ft.

time taken by policeman=800/speed of policeman

                                        =800/8

                                          =100s.
