A poor wood-cutter was cutting tree on the bank of a
river. Suddenly his axe slipped and was dropped into the
river-water. The wood-cutter began to weep bitterly.
The God of the river saw this and stood before him with
a golden axe. Now the God asked him, “Is this your axe
poor man?" The wood-cutter said, "No, it is not my axe.
After a moment, the God appeared to him with a silver
axe. "Is this your axe?" asked the God. The wood-cutter
said. "No Sir, it is not mine."
Next the God appeared again with an iron axe which
vas of the wood-cutter. "Is this your axe ?" asked the
God. "Yes it is mine", said the wood-cutter.
