GIVEN:

  • A positive number is 5 times another number.
  • 21 is added to both the numbers,then one of the new numbers becomes twice the other new number.

TO FIND:

  • What are the numbers ?

SOLUTION:

CASE:- 1)

A positive number is 5times another number.

According to question:-

Let one number be 'x' and another number be '5x'

CASE:- 2)

21 is added to both the numbers,then one of the new numbers becomes twice the other new number.

According to question:-

New number :-

  • (x + 21)
  • (5x + 21)

5x + 21 = 2(x + 21)

5x + 21 = 2x + 42

5x –2x = 42 –21

3x = 21

\sf{ x = \cancel\dfrac{21}{3}}

❮ x = One number = 7

Put the value of 'x' in another number

Another number = 5x

Another number = 5 \times 7

❮ Another number = 35

Hence, the one number is 7 and another number is 35

Solution :

Let the first number be a & second number be 5a

A/q

∴ Adding to both the number's :

\longrightarrow\sf{2(a+21 )= 5a+21}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{2a+42=5a+21}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{2a-5a=21-42}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{-3a=-21}\\\\\longrightarrow\sf{a=\cancel{-21/-3}}\\\\\longrightarrow\bf{a=7}

Thus;

One number be a = 7

Other number be 5a = 5 × 7 = 35
