A poultry farm having 4000 hens has provision of food for 200 days . how many hens must be sold after 40 days ,so that the remaining food may last for 200 days more for the remaining food

with 100% of food, we could feed 4000 hens for 200 days.
per day consumption of 4000 hens is 100/200=0.5%
by 40 days, 0.5×40=20% will be consumed.
now with 80% food left, we have to feed 4000-x hens for 200 days.
with 80% of food left, we could feed 80% of total hens for another 200 days.
that is, we have to sell 800 hens on the 4th day.

if it has to last for 200+(200-40) days, we could feed only 1777 hens and will have to sell 2223 hens.
there comes decimal point in the answer, may be we have to consider that it might be a mistake in the question or misinterpreted.
