A power company uses cable that consists of an A36 steel core (shaded in figure) that is 9/32 in. in diameter and is surrounded by seven strands of 6061 annealed aluminum wire, each of which is 1/8 in. in diameter. This cable carries a total tensile load of 2850 lb. Find (a) the stress in the steel and stress in the aluminum, and (b) the deformation in 500 ft of cable.
