A power line of resistance 0.5 Ω carries a constant current of 100 A.

To find : the amount of energy is being lost per day in the form of heat in the line.

solution : according to Joule law,

energy dissipation in the form of heat is given by, E = i²Rt

where i is current passing through appliance, R is the resistance of appliance and t is time taken.

here i = 100 A , R = 0.5Ω

and t = 1 day = 24 × 3600 sec = 86400 sec

now E = (100)² × 0.5 × 86400 J

= 10⁴ × 4.32 × 10⁴ J

= 4.32 × 10^8 J

Therefore 4.32 × 10^8 J energy is being lost per day in the form of heat in the line.
