the proverb 'pride goes before a fall' means that one makes more mistakes when one is overconfident ..

here in the chapter ,
Mrs packletide was over confident that the tiger is quite old and it will be no big to kill it .
so , even on the caution of miss mebbin , she remained overconfident , and as a resulted shooted the goat instead of the tiger. although the tiger was killed due to heart attack , Mrs packletide boasted , and at the end paid for it too .
