Given :  a printer manufacturing company claims that it's new ink- efficient printer can print an average of 1500 pages of word documents with standard deviation of 60.

thirty-five(35) of these printers showed a mean of 1475 pages.

To Find :  does this support the company's claim? use 95% confidence level.

Solution:

Mean = 1500

SD = 60

n = 35

SD = Standard Deviation

SE = Standard Error

SE = SD/√n   = 36/√35  = 6.085

Sample mean = 1475

Z for  95% confidence level.  ±1.96

confidence interval

Sample Mean ± z * SE

= 1475 ± 1.96 * 6.085

= 1475 ± 11.93

= 1,463.07  to 1486.93

1500 Does not lies in   1,463.07  to 1486.93

Hence  This does not support the company's claim  of   printer can print an average of 1500 pages
