A product is processed through three units ,i.e Unit I , Unit II, Unit III where 60%,30% and 10% work is completed. Defects occurring during processing while in Unit I, Unit II, Unit III are 5%,20% and 35% respectively. What is the probability that the product is defectless.

Given :  A product is processed through three units

,i.e Unit I , Unit II, Unit III where 60%,30% and 10% work is completed. Defects occurring during processing while in Unit I, Unit II, Unit III are 5%,20% and 35% respectively.

To Find :   the probability that the product is defect less.

Solution:

Defects occurring during processing while in Unit I, = 5 % = 0.05

no defect in Unit I  =  1- 0.05  = 0.95

Defects occurring during processing while in Unit II, = 20 % = 0.2

no defect in Unit II =  1- 0.2  = 0.8

Defects occurring during processing while in Unit III, = 20 % = 0.2

no defect in Unit III =  1- 0.35  = 0.65

probability that the product is defect less.  =  (0.95)(0.8)(0.65) = 0.494

= 49.4 %
