Velocity of projection = 40 m/s , and max range is expected.

So, angle of projection has to be 45° for max range.

Now, let time period be T :

T =  \dfrac{2u \sin( \theta) }{g}

 \implies T =  \dfrac{2 \times 40 \times  \sin( {45}^{ \circ} ) }{10}

 \implies T =  8 \times  \dfrac{1}{ \sqrt{2} }

 \implies T =  4 \sqrt{2}  \: sec

So, time of flight is 42 seconds.
