A projectile, of mass 50g is projected with a velocity of 10 ms-1 from the ground
at an angle of 45° with the horizontal. Find the magnitude of the change in its
momentum between 'leaving' and 'arriving back to the ground.

Answer

- 707.11 Ns

Step by Step Explanation

Given in the question,

mass of object = 50g

velocity of object = 10m/s

Formula to calculate momentum

momentum =  m * v

where m = mass

           v = velocity

Initial momentum = m (vcos45i+vsin45j)

                             = 50(10cos45 + 10sin45)

                             = 707.11

Final momentum = m (vcos45i-vsin45j)

                            = 50 (10cos45 - 10sin45)

                            = 0

change in momentum = m * v(final) - m * v(initial)

                                     = 0 - 707.11

                                     = - 707.11
