Mass rate = 500 g/min = 8.33 g/sec

Height to which the water need to be raised = 2.5 m

Acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s^2

Power = mass rate × gravity × height

Power = 8.33 \times 10^-^3 \times 9.8 \times 2.5

Power = 0.204 W

In horse power:

Power = 0.000273 hp

Hence, the power needed to lift the water is : Power = 0.000273 hp
