Answer:-

Let the number Rs. 1 coins be x and Rs. 2 coins be y.

Given:

Number of coins are in the ratio 5 : 4 (or) 5/4.

→ x / y = 5 / 4

On cross multiplication we get,

→ 4x = 5y

x = (5y / 4) -- equation (1)

And,

The total value of the coins = Rs. 65

→ (1)(x) + (2)(y) = 65

→ x + 2y = 65

Substitute the value of x from equation (1).

→ (5y/4) + 2y = 65

→ (5y + 4 * 2y)/4 = 65

→ 5y + 8y = 65 * 4

→ 13y = 65 * 4

→ y = 65 * 4 / 13

→ y = 20

Number of Rs. 2 coins (y) = 20.

Hence, there are 20 - Rs. 2 coins in the purse.
