Given :

Given, a purse contains 25p and 50p coins. The number of 25p coins is three times rhe number of 50p coins. The total money in the purse is Rs.50.

 \\

To find :

We have to find the number of each coin in the purse.

 \\

Explaination :

Here, in the question, it is said that a purse contains 25p and 50p coins. The number of 25p coins is three times the number of 50p coins. The purse in total has Rs.50 in it. To find the number of coins, we should first convert Rs.50 into p and then have suitable variables for the 25p, 50p coins. Then, equate it to 5000p and find the numbers.

 \\

Solution :

Converting Rs.50 into paise :

  • Rs.50 (100)
  • 5000p

As mentioned, let the :

  • Number of 50p coins be x
  • Number of 25p coins be 3x

Now, according to the question :

  • 25(3x) + 50(x) = 5000
  • 75x + 50x = 5000
  • 125x = 5000
  • x = 5000/125
  • x = 40

Substituting the values :

  • Number of 50p coins = 40
  • Number of 25p coins = 3x = 120
