and that of 50 paise coins be b ;

According to the question :

a = 3b ------------–------–(1)

25a paise = (1/4)a rupees
50b paise = (1/2)b rupees

25a+50b = 50 Rs

(1/4)a+(1/2)b= 50
(a/4) + (b/2) = 50
(a+2b)/4 = 50
2b+a = 200
a = 200-2b ------------------(2)

3b = 200-2b
5b = 200
b = 40

a = 3b
a = 3×40
a = 120
