A purse has only two rupee and five rupee coins. The sum of the coins is 36 and the total value of the coins is 84 rupees. Find the number of five rupee coins

Let the no of Rs 2 coins be x and the no of Rs 5 coins be y.
x + y = 36 … (1)
2x + 5y = 84 … (2)
Multiplying (1) by 2 :
2x + 2y = 72 … (3)
Subtracting (3) from (2) :
=> 2x + 5y - 2x - 2y = 84 - 72
=> 3y = 12
=> y = 4
So, the no of Rs 5 coins are 4.

then X+y= 36 & 2x+5y=84
so X = 36-y this value of X put in second equation
2x+5y=84
2(36-y)+5y=84
72-2y+5y=84
3y=12
y=4 & x=36-y
