hi friend,

<>the given quantity is velocity.because speed is a scalar quantity .it has only magnitude but not direction..and velocity is a vector quantity ,it depends on magnitude as well as direction.. so the given quantity is velocity.

<>since given quantity is -20m/s ,it shows magnitude as well as direction.

m/s is the unit of both speed and velocity

in order to differentiate between the two , we need to understand their definitions 

speed depends on magnitude but not on direction whereas the velocity depends on both

as it is given -20m/'s

there is a negative sign which indicates the direction , hence it is velocity
