This is because, if the man had really thought that it was his room, he would not knock and would try to directly enter into the room.

Answer:

who the heck knocks their 'own' door?

Explanation:

A person would normally try to enter a room with their key or they would simply pull the handle.

Unless the room was'nt yours...you wont 'knock' it.

The man would have come to the hotel in the first place to identify the whereabouts of that woman, and she wanted the man to be in cuffs as quick as possible before he could do anything else with the information he had uncovered by 'knocking'
