A question:
If we were to assume the wave nature of both electrons and light, and assume that a light wave hit the electron, would it still jump to another level of excitation or would the wave of light simply pass over the electron?

A very good question , Whether the electron will jump to excitation level or not , depends upon the wavelength and intensity of light.
There are many types of light like Infrared light , UV rays , Electromagnetic rays etc.
If the wavelength of light is about the size of the wavelength of electronic wave , then the electron would jump to excitation level.
